UL Computer Society Keyring
I made these keyrings for promotional purposes for the computer society to use at a conference that we were attending.
I took the outline version of the society logo into Illustrator.
I had to create two drawings one of the main body and one of the design in the center, I also simplified the design to make it easier to print.
I saved these two drawings as .dxf which is a type of vector drawing file that can be imported into SolidWorks.
I made the body of the keyring using the first drawing, I made it 40mm x 40mm x 5mm.
Then I used the second drawing to cut the design 2mm into the keyring.
Then I cut the two big holes all the way through so that it could actually be used as a keyring.
That was the design done so I printed it.
The design was a small bit too complex for my printer and there was some gaps in the final piece but it worked very well for the purpose we needed it for.
I have since printed one at 200% and the details came out much better.
All the files are available here.
Sorry this post was a a bit late its been a busy week, a server in the Computer Society Cluster died and brought down some Students Union services for 48 hours (so we were scrambling to fix that) and I also won the “Best Society Individual in Ireland” at the Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) National Awards on Friday!
As always if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask,
Conor.
